Daughters of Liberation and a God of Nevertheless (Mosiah 18-24)
Monday May 11, 2020
Monday May 11, 2020
EDIT: Since its publication we have received multiple critiques of the interpretation we offered of the story of the daughters in this episode.
We hoped by interpreting their story through a lens of strength we could offer these women power. This effort was well-intended but also excluded important discussions about the structures of power and oppression that victimized these women, therefore allowing their oppression to go unnamed and unaccounted for. Only after moving through a thorough critique of the structures of power and those that abuse them can we turn to the women's voices.
We are grateful for the respectful dialogue we've had with our listeners that has helped us realize what the episode was missing. We will continue to work toward well-researched and thorough study of the women in the scriptures, and plan at a future date to return and revise this episode so it better reflects our mission statement. Thank you for listening!
